    The Energy of Avalon

      Thanks for reading Vera Nadine!

Some people are just drawn here. But few can explain why. Is it the history of the place? Is it the myths? Is it the modern community that they find here? For myself I cannot say that it is any one thing which makes Glastonbury (also known as Avalon) such a wonderful place to be.

When I first came here, in 2001, I was living in Britain as a student, feeling lonely and wishing to meet some like-minded people to build friendships with. I walked the streets of Glastonbury at night, singing Goddess songs and soaking up the intense energy that rises from the ground here. A climb up the Tor reminded me that it was Guy Fawkes night, as fireworks displays could be seen coming from the adjacent towns on every side of the Tor.

From then on I have been hooked, coming to Avalon whenever my batteries need a recharge, walking around the Chalice Well gardens, drinking from the healing waters of the Red and White springs, pondering religion amongst the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, meditating in the cold winds atop the Tor and just being me, without care for the opinions or dramas of others.

I have been here four times since 2001 and have often wondered about all of the myths and legends that surround this particular place on the globe.

Here the great King Arthur was buried along with his Queen, Guinevere. Or were they?

Here stood the ancient aisle of Avalon, the land of apples and priestesses, home to the ancient religion in England. Or did it?

Here Joseph of Arimithea struck the ground with his staff and gave rise to the Holy Thorn, thus proclaiming Glastonbury a home for Christianity. Or did he?

Here the Knights Templar hid the Holy Grail in the waters of the Chalice Well, thus endowing it with its healing powers. Or did they?

Here the landscape forms a true depiction of the body of the Goddess within its hills and valleys? Or does it?

It matters not what I believe, and I do have very strong beliefs about what this place is, what it was and why it is so filled with energy. What matters is that it can be anything to anyone, the perfect place for a person to come and recharge their spirit.

Whatever you believe, there is certainly a large natural reserve of energy flowing up from the ground here, ready to be absorbed and built upon by knowing travelers and residents alike.

I sat in the cold winds the other morning, meditating upon the Tor and using the technique of opening the head to the Universe while putting roots into the Earth, I felt my taproot go deeper than it ever has before. My whole body filled with a white-yellow light and I was connected to the All at the deepest level imaginable.

Since being here I have succeeded in teaching another person to see energy, someone who had never done so before. How could you fail to see energy in a place that is so thick with it?

I have walked in the perfect balance between ancient nature and modern town that is uniquely Glastonbury.

My emotions have poured from me and I have admitted faults and wounds that I had suppressed because I did not feel safe enough to let them out.

Glastonbury is like a cradle or the womb, a place where the fragile lifeforce of the soul is free to flow and is protected from harm.

Any life-changing time is best followed, or begun, by a mindful visit to one of Mother Earth’s great energy spots. Avalon is my preferred region for healing, reconnection and ancient rememberings.

I have been channeling while here, of course, for my first book and for my clients, but essentially the focus is on my own spirit and the strength of my own inner voice.

Serge and I were so very lucky the other day, while walking up Chilkwell Street to find the White Spring, the magical balance to the Chalice Well, actually unlocked and open for visitors.

In all of my many visits to Glastonbury I have never been so lucky before.

I was amazed. I was floored. Tears welled up in my eyes at the fantastic beauty that it held.

Here she was, the goddess that I have known all along must be here but had never found. There are the other Goddesses and the ancestors here of course, but the one energy to which my soul is directly attuned seemed to be hiding from me.

And there in the candlelit grottoes and rushing underground streams of this White Spring, she sat, grinning out at me saying, “Daughter, where have you been?” in her eternally glowing and playful way.

If you read about Glastonbury and feel in any way drawn here, I say come, feel at home and let the peace of the Mother’s energy fill you up. For here, perhaps more than anywhere else, you may find that secret thing that you are looking for.

To the spiritual visitor of Avalon I make some suggestions:

      1. Be prepared for transformation, but do not assume that a spiritual journey or healing journey will be all rose petals and rainbows…come to open yourself and to grow, but to do so through hard work and emotional release.

      2. Be sure to visit the Christian sites as well as the Pagan ones, all religions gravitate towards the same light and positive Earth energies. The ancient is always there to be felt by anyone attuned to its healing truths.

      3. Go to Chalice Well and walk the gardens in the light of day, but make sure to contact the owners of the White Spring for access to this dark, misty realm (which is rare but free), as the true healing and awakening journey must bring you to both the light and the dark.

      4. Eat lighter while you are here as it will ease your meditations and awaken your senses. Try one of Glastonbury’s many cafes for vegetarian eats and local food or stop into Burns the Bread for a vegetable pasty.

      5. As you walk, with friends or alone, to the many magical sites around the Isle of Avalon, such as Bridies Mound, the Tor, Gog and Magog and the Holy Thorn, do feel free to chat with each other and let your minds wander. But, on approach to the sacred sites, and while spending time at them, let the conversation fall away and become mindful of the energy there as well as your own spiritual purposes. The transformation is unlikely to occur if you are thinking in a “Shopping Mall” way while at an “Atlantis” type of location.

As for myself, I am now heading outside to soak up some more of Avalon’s limitless energy and watch the morning mists slowly leave the beautiful valley. Blessings to you all.
