Hold the Vision - What is Possible

      Thanks for reading Vera Nadine!

I want to thank Jen of Goodness Gracious for tagging me with her new idea. A challenge to subvert the naysayers and dream of what is possible for us all. A future vision of positive intentions for focusing the energy of this human community……

I see a place filled with mindfulness and acceptance of the universal truths that we all aspire to. I see a world without religion but full of spirit. Religion is divisive and highly subjective, spirit and truth and hope simply ARE. They do not need fancy names or edicts or laws. What each of us finds uplifting and awe-inspiring…. that is our religion. What is unnecessary and nonspiritual is to kill someone because you do not agree with them, to take life because of some false sense of piety or absolute right-ness. Lets all hug the “other” and recognize in them and their ways the same joy and sincerity that we find in our ways.

I see cob houses, houses made out of the elements that nature provides us without the need for processing and resource wasting under which we all suffer nowadays. If desert peoples can build 10-story mud buildings and fit them with elevators and running water, English medieval craftsmen could build houses of twigs and straw that still stand today, field stones could be used to construct castles and roman villas and crooked trees can be used to make timber-framed farmhouses that never seem to fall down in earthquakes, all without the aid of electricity, packaging, fossil fuels and government building codes, then why are we using concrete, plastic, fibreglass and plywood? Let’s force our local governments to change their approach to building codes. Let’s insist that they repeal foolish laws designed to keep poor people from building homes and designed to keep rich developers rich. Build a yurt, build a recycled timber home, build a mud-walled solar house that produces its own electricity, build a geodesic dome. Tell them to take their occupancy permits and….well you get the picture.

I see community. Not global corporations or national unity but true community, where neighbor knows neighbor and they share both the joys and the burdens of life. What is my neighbors name? If I till my garden once a year and he tills his once a year and then the tiller sits idle in his garage for 11 months, why do I feel it is necessary for me to buy a tiller? Why do I feel so strange asking to borrow his? This is due to a catastrophic breakdown in community and a concerted effort by media and corporate interests to breed a permanent separateness between me, you and the guy next-door. And they’ve succeeded on more levels than one. Lets take back our humanity by inviting the sick elderly man down the road over for a cookout. We know he’s alone, we know he shouldn’t be but we shake our head with pity and then continue doing nothing. Do something today.

I see a balanced approach to healing where we eat the whole plant instead of isolating the “useful” part into pill form with loads of mystery fillers. If the Goddess had intended it to be isolated and consumed on its own then the singular compound would grow on its own. Lets eat antibiotic foodstuffs instead of killing our whole microbial system with pills. If you eat closer to nature you will be more balanced with your place in nature and the gift you receive in return will be better health. Plain and simple.

On the same note, I see us all growing our own food. Maybe not everything but what you can, when its in season. If “they” can’t make cat food safe and spinach is covered in poo then what makes you think that your mlik or your baby food or that steak is safe and healthy to eat? It isn’t. Food is meant to be provided by nature at the local level. This staves off allergies and disease and allows you, the one doing the consuming to know, and put your energy into, the process of production. By being involved with your food you build an energetic and symbiotic relationship with what you eat that will build bones faster than any fortified box of cereal of Centrum Complete vitamin could ever do. Buy some chickens, plant a window box garden, volunteer at a CSA farm, build a root cellar in your closet, kiss your fresh-picked thyme before tossing it in the pan.

My vision of the future is of small communities of people living in natural houses that are heated and cooled by their own environment, sharing tools and workloads and growing their own foodstuffs.

These forward (or backward if you look at it wrong) thinking people would trade recipes and chat near the mailbox, they’d trust nature to provide their healing compositions and their food.

They would have respect for the sacrifices and contributions of other humans and of animals and they would have respect for the sun, the Earth on which we live and the magic of the moon and stars.

They would value self-expression and spiritual oneness over possessions and dollar signs.

The only news would be how great the world was developing and the fact that education and achievement, abundance and good health were personal paths open to any and every human alive.

May it Be Again and for Always Within Our Lifetimes!

    Namaste.

A wonderful vision that inspires my own vision of a peaceful, earth-loving community. Small villages as compared to energy destroying cities would be much better for all living beings. Wonderful post.

      Blessings.

      Hi Vera,

This post reminds me of one of my all time favorite books, The Fifth Sacred Thing…human consciousness is definitely expanding and I expect that a ‘modern’ back to nature approach will be preferred. Something not too off from your and Starhawk’s vision (of course the more people who get the vision the more true this becomes) :)

Keep up the great work! It’s wonderful to watch you grow!

      Bright Blessings,

      Paula Kawal
