    Q&A: Spiritual Blogging

      Thanks for reading Vera Nadine!

A reader wrote to ask a question about blogging on spiritual subjects:

“Like you, I’m slowly starting up a New Age-Spiritual-Religion blog. My question to you is- How do you find topics to write about? Or how does one find ideas to write on? Does it come to you, do you search, etc etc.”

    -River

This is an excellent question River and I am always glad to give advice to fellow spiritual bloggers. There are so many people out there seeking right now, getting the feeling that something is changing in our world and in their lives. The more outlets for inspiration and information, the better.

I have taken a look at your blog, River of Karma, and I think that you are off to a fantastic start with your topics. As for me, I get my subjects in several ways.

Firstly, write what you know about. You know about Reiki so you’ve written about Reiki, good choice. I know about channeling so I write a lot about channeling. Always begin by writing a general post on the subject (think of this like an introduction) and then follow it up with more specific posts on different aspects of the subject. Include personal stories (your own and those of other people-with their permission of course) because a personal story not only illustrates your meaning but it also helps people to feel that you actually know about your topic first-hand and aren’t some textbook quack.

Try to think of questions that You-the earlier seeker would ask the You-now a bit wiser. In other words when you first started did you want to know what different kinds of divination there were before you settled on pendulum reading or runes? Did you want to know the difference between acupuncture and acupressure? These beginners questions are always good topics, and will be sure to help the maximum number of people.

Then, think about stuff that you still want to know, more advanced and deep topics. Carrying out the research and practice necessary to write a brief informational post on a topic can be an excellent way for you to advance into a new area for yourself. So, do you want to know more in-depth info about the 8th sefirah of the kabbalah? Well read about it in several sources, meditate on it yourself, ask people who have successfully attained it and then start writing a brief informational post. Get it?

Another good thing to write about is your own personal awakenings and affirmations. You do not have to write these in the first-person if you’d rather stay a bit more anonymous. Tell about your first successful meditation or a dream you had that changed your life or a teaching that someone shared with you that made something you already knew actually click for you.

I tend to be inspired to a new topic by something I am reading, experiencing or have recently seen on television. (Not that I watch a whole boatload of t.v. but it can be an interesting foray into human nature when I do watch it.) So if I am reading the channeling of another psychic, my guides will sometimes want to chime in on what I have been absorbing. If I am reading about aura cleansing and I get the urge to type up some incantation that helps do that I go with it.

I usually type in MSWord first and then post it online if I end up liking it. This can be a problem since my WordPress editor doesn’t play nice with stuff that has been formatted in Word.

A great place to find topics for posts is simply by reading other people’s blogs. There is usually some hefty debate going on somewhere and if you find a post that you really agree with, really disagree with or just want to expound upon you can do that, with or without including a link to the other persons blog. But if you do this try to be cool with plagiarism and copyright laws. I generally tend to just write my own post on the topic without including any wording from the blog that inspired it. We all cover similar topics but what we are doing is trying to help people and any good teacher will tell you that you can word the same thing ten different ways but only one of those ways will actually reach the person you are talking to. What I’m saying is that there is room for more than one voice in the wilderness.

Lastly, I get ideas for spiritual posts from inquisitive readers and visitors such as yourself who are nice enough to take the time to contact me. This can be slow in the beginning but once contact picks up you will wonder where you can possibly find the time to answer all of these lovely souls who have taken the time to reach out to you.

    Best wishes and happy blogging!

      To Ms. Vera Nadine,
Thank you so much for your response. I truly never expected to gain such insight, yet alone a personalized answer.

Nonetheless, I appreciate your advice and will keep them. Your me before asking me now is a gem of a response, as is the others you have outlined.

Keep up the good work and look forward to more of your stuff.

This is a great post, loved the information. My blog started out being about my spiritual journey and now has morphed into… something else. I’d like to get back into discussing my spiritual journey more again, and these are great suggestions.
